Band Practice

Yeah, I know we suck, but Seth and I added a new song to the collection. Before long we'll have enough for a full length album.

So check out the some cool video music right here and feel free to comment. The latest is "Sun Chips." My favorite is "Ladies and the Honies," but the fan fave is "Football."

Who needs American Idol anyway?!

Warning: what you are about to hear may cause you to vomit out of your nose.

The Road To Tehran

Are there very many ways to interpret, "we will respond firmly," when Bush is talking about Iranian involvement in Iraq? I think we can all see where this is headed. And we all know that as soon as Bush Double Dog Dares Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to invade Iraq... well, Ahmadinejad just can't say "no" to a Double Dog Dare.

Put on your seatbelts. It's going to be a bumpy ride.

You Can't Keep A Good Duck Down

The duck has cheated death again. The AP story tells how the duck that was shot, but woke up in the hunter's fridge has survived another close call. After being taken to a vet hopital to have surgery for the gunshot wound, the duck died on the operating table. The vet performed CPR on the duck, likely yelling, "Live Dammit!" much in the style of Hawkeye on M*A*S*H, and the duck came back from the dead again.

It's a truly inspiring story... for ducks.

Mmmmm... Bad Idea

Now this is science at work for the better of humanity. A scientist in North Carolina has created the "Buzz Donut" which is "a way to add caffeine to baked goods, without the bitter taste of caffeine."

Yeah, this is a fantastic idea. The only possible improvement would be to add nicotine as well. One can only hope that the donuts contain all possible trans fats as well. God Bless America.

Coming Soon!

I'm getting excited!

On February 10th, an update in New York's American Museum of Natural History will open. As soon as it does, I'm going to try to see it, and I'll be sure to give my review on the displays.

What could possibly get me so excited? The exhibit is called the Anne and Bernard Spitzer Hall of Human Origins, and looks to be the most up to date public display of human evolution yet. With all of the new information available currently, as well as all of the recent schoolroom battles over the teaching of Creationism, I would encourage anyone who will be in New York to visit the museum if only to see this exhibit.

Of course, here I go assuming it's going to be great without even seeing it!

Golden Showers Bring Dead Flowers

Last night, while flipping through the channels between segments of Colbert, I stopped on one of the MTV channels. I don't know what the show was called (I didn't stick around long enough to find out), but the premise was that a girl asked questions of two boys, while her best friend hid in a van with lie detection equiptment. After all questions are asked & the lies sorted from the truth, the girl picks the boy she wants to date. Typical MTV bullshit.

The questions were truly deep philosophical queries. She asked the dark-haired guy, "Have you ever peed in the shower?" which he absolutely denied. Turns out he was lying, but the troubling thing is that the girl said, "Why would you even lie about that? Everybody pees in the shower!"

I remember a Seinfeld episode where George relieved himself in a health club shower and it was a big deal. I have never done this in any shower. Every Saturday on my way home from drinking I urinate in the street, but that's a different story. I'm just watering the flowers, or killing the crabgrass, or something. Pissing in the shower is disgusting. How could you stand in your own filth like that?!

But am I wrong? Is this really something that everybody does?! Please say it ain't so!

God Puts on His Lab Coat

A group of 28 scientists and evangelical Christians today announced their commitment to working together to address global and environmental climate change--an issue that they say is pressing enough to trump any theological differences between the groups.

I'm giddy all over! It's very late in the day, but I will hold a little hope that there will finally be fewer deniers with so much political clout. A change has got to come!

TRAINASAURUS WREX!

After work last night I met up with my friend, Jon, for drinks at The Collins Bar near Times Square. We were killing time before the great Guiness Believer event. The bar had a nice neighborhood feel, which is a strange thing in the heart of tourist-filled Times Square. It was a fun, relaxed time hanging out with my friend, but I also have reason to feel like a dolt about the evening.

The Collins Bar has a very long bar from the entrance, with a small area with two or three tables before the tiny restrooms at the back of the room. We were sitting at one of the tables talking, when a very attractive blonde girl walked in. At least in my opinion she was beautiful. Jon thought she wasn't so pretty as I did. But this is my story, so to hell with Jon's taste for now. She sat down at the bar alone, and with a frustrated look on her face. She looked really, really, really good in her white sweater and blue jeans, as though God invented fluffy white sweaters just for her. She reminded me of the kinds of girls I used to fall in love with immediately in college, but she looked as if she were angry at someone and really needed to release.

So where is this story leading? Nowhere. After about a half hour of stolen glances between this woman and me, Jon and I had to leave, so we left the bar, with the pretty blonde watching us as we walked past her. I never offered to buy her a drink. I didn't ask her to join us. I hadn't even thought to ask her if she wanted to go to the Guiness event with us. I just left another fantasy in my empty beer glass on the bar. Oh well.

Charity Is More Important Than "Being Saved"

Tonight is cold. I walked the near-mile from the PATH station to my apartment in Hoboken and couldn't imagine the cold without a home to travel toward. After about six blocks, I passed an ATM vestibule where a woman was sitting, keeping warm. She was clearly homeless. For the rest of the way home I thought about how horrible her life must be in this cold, while Donald Trump gains a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Shortly I was home, and I looked around my apartment for something warm that I could give up for this person. I realized that in my closet I have a wool overcoat that I never wear. I rolled it up in a ball and went back into the cold toward the ATM.

When I entered the bank vestibule, I said nothing. I just unrolled the coat and handed it to her. I was amazed at how she looked face-to-face. She looked no older than I am. In that moment I could have guessed a life of wrong turns or mental and emotional confusion. I handed her the coat and she said simply and humbly, "thank you." I nodded and left.

Not long ago there was a man who saved another in the subway here in New York, then within the week, two men who saved a toddler from a multi-story fall. I can't imagine ever being a hero like them. In the case of the second, I'm sure I'd drop the baby. In the case of the first, there is no way I'd put my face into the the muck that flows between the tracks of an MTA subway.

I don't know what any of this means exactly. But I felt good helping someone in need. Remember charity. Remember love. It might be all that we have that separates us from the Neanderthals (although the link may be closer than we think).

No More Smoke and Mirrors

It looks like Exxon-Mobile has finally started to see the light through its own cloud of smoke and greenhouse gasses. The world's largest environmental destroyer is finally pulling its support away from a global warming denier organization called the Competitive Enterprise Institute (C.E.I.), or as I call it the Complete Enviromental Idiots. It's a move that is important as it gets toward curbing path of damage to our planet.

The nice thing is that even though Bush pulled us out of the Kyoto Protocol, Exxon has to comply internationally anyway, so it shouldn't be something to difficult and costly. In other words, we may be on the fast track to new corportate environmental awareness. This is where corrections have to begin, and this is where the greates difference will be made.
