I'll Be Hero Zero

You may have heard that Marla Ruzicka, an anti-war activist working in Iraq, died this past weekend. It's a sad thing. The fact that she was killed by a suicide bomber will probably give both the left and the right fuel for more fire. Personally, I think it just proves that it doesn't pay to do the right thing. I'm just going to continue going about my meaninless existance and live to an old age. I'll care about those I know and hope I never have to witness the horror that my indifference allows. I have little hope that a bright future awaits the world.

There's no mystical energy controls my destiny...

Tonight a coworker and I began discussing Tarot and all of those "Metaphysical" beliefs. At first the conversation seemed normal. She said she had a tarot deck, but really just believed in positive energy rather than anything that could predict the future or reveal a person's being through a card trick.

Seemed okay.

By positive energy, she means karma. I told her that I understood following that as a practice for life because people will remember if you treat them well or like dirt (isn't that right, John Bolton?), but I don't really believe there is a mystical energy that actually balances out good and bad, positive and negative unless we're actually talking about electrical charges. Human behavior is a matter of sociology & psychology, not physical science.

Seemed to be cool with that.

Then she tells me she believes in past lives. Hmph. She claims she had a past life regression once. I see. I asked her if it had been done through hypnosis. Of course, it had. Because she said it was a very deep and meaningful experience for her. I just finished with, "well that's interesting."

There's just something about a white American lesbian telling me she used to be an 11-year-old Chinese boy who still has to work on problems that have plagued her for all of her lives that makes me wonder how she is managing to get through this life. It's a little funny, but at the same time sad to me that people are always looking somewhere else for guidance instead of making decisions for themselves. What scares me the most is that there are these hypnotists out there who prey upon the poor fools who believe there is something good about putting someone under a trance. In a book by Michael Shermer, Why People Believe Weird Things, there is plenty of talk about that.

I won't ever give this coworker my blog address. Likewise I won't ever tell her to her face that I think she needs to wake up and smell the Cafe Mocha. It isn't that I'd care to see her spend the rest of her days following her own shadow, but it's a hell of a thing to be responsible for waking someone up when they have a nice dream going.

Let's just keep this between you, me and the one other person who reads this blog.

New Release Tuesday

Ah! I'm looking forward to this one!

As of this hour it is Tues., April 26th, and the long awaited re-re-release of Elvis Costello's King of America CD is at hand. Or if you prefer, King of America.

This is the re-re-release I've been waiting for since Rhino first took hold of the catalogue back in 2001 and put out the first 3 of these very nice 2-disc sets. It has been a long wait, that originally was scheduled to be over in a matter of a year and a half, but now my patience will have paid off.

I've been making due with the Ryko re-release of this 1986 album, which was an okay job overall, but was lacking in the cornicopia of bonus material which I will relish on a complete second disc of the Rhino gnarly edition.

Now, there is also a new album by Bruce Springsteen which I've heard some nice things about, but I'm going to reserve my judgement on that one until I've fully digested it. I wasn't all that thrilled with The Rising. I thought it sounded too much like an aging rocker who ran out of ideas and began relying on studio production to cover for otherwise boring material. I liked the sound of Springsteen's old albums. These new ones, ehhhh, not so much.

Well, the Costello should hold me for a few weeks, then I hope to get the Springsteen disc as a birthday gift from my sister in late May. You reading this, Sis?

Meanwhile, gentle readers, buy a CD instead of downloading you cheap cyber-trash loser and enjoy some liner notes for christ'sake!!

Chicken Embryos Dripping Down On Boobies

Last night I caught a few minutes of Fear Factor on FX or one of those lame second run stations. The women (and men for that matter) were beautiful. I only watched a minute or two of the show because I can't stand it, but it still throws me off balance when I click on that show.

I always thought that the beautiful people had it all. They only had to bad an eye and the world was handed to them. Hey, I put up with 2 years of hell from a girl I was dating just because she had a pair of tripple D's. I'm not defending it, but good looks & good cleavage are fantastic marketing tools. Face it.

This Fear Factory, however, has made me realize that the life of a hottie is not what it seems. Gorgeous people are willing to eat fetuses and dog shit just to get a little TV action. I think it's the disease of being good looking: once you realise being hot is your ticket to ride, you'll do anything to get your mug (and cleavage) out there in the public eye.

Yes, this is all obvious, but there's a reason to my rant. Sometimes I just think it's important to say it: GOD BLESS AMERICA!

Back in the Saddle Sore

So I haven't written in over 2 months.

So I haven't gone out much either.

So I have no idea what any of my friends are up to.

So I need a shower.

So I lost touch with reality.

So sue me.

I have a new computer & I'm going to try to be online & write often. Although, the news these days (George W Bush, Tom Delay, the Pope, Michael Jackson, vegetable feeding tubes, yada, yada, yada) would drive a person to drink. I think I may just concentrate on the frivolous drivel of daily life. Hmmm... Then again, maybe I'll just make some shit up.
