The cost of living well

How much longer before the price of HDTV's drop?! Two nights ago (that's right, on Valentine's Day - we're poor until Friday), I went with my Cutie-Cute on a trip to various stores to put items on our wish lists. We already have a rice cooker and a Forman Grill, so next we need a new mattress, a kitchen table, a sofa, and several lower-priced items for the bathroom and kitchen so the road to domesticity is well paved.

Two of the higher priced items we looked at were computers, because we both have out-dated pieces of gargage (sorry lil' laptop, you know you suck), and HDTV's. I keep expecting the price of these necessities for DVD viewing to drop dramatically, but the price change is a trickle down at best.

Of course while I looked at the prices of the 32" models that I could afford if I just saved my beer money for a few months, the big 50" sets were the ones that called out to me, "watch Star Wars on me!" I'd have to sell an arm, a leg, a kidney and a testicle if I wanted one of those.

Well, I want one of those. Anybody know where I can sell an arm, a leg, a kidney and a testicle?

Picture if you will the de-evolution of man...

They guy who lives downstairs from me is a big sports nut. Specifically, he's fat, listens to games at high volume, and is a freak. One night I heard him yell, "who's your daddy?" several times and I don't think he had company.

I live in an apartment building which has eight dwellings. There are two apartments for each entrance. I live upstairs from this loon, and have to pass by his door on the way up to my floor. We share a common entrance, and he has a window just to the right of this door. I usually avoid looking in, but the flicker of blue tv light caught my attention one night last Summer and I saw he had two televisions right next to each other, both of them on. He also always has one of them blasting full volume 25 hours a day. That's not much of an exageration.

The other night when I was walking in after parking my car two blocks away because another neighbor shares his apartment with 20 roommates (another near-truth) and I noticed through his window that he not only had both tv's on, but each had picture-in-picture! Why would anyone want to watch that much mind-numbing crap at once? I don't know if he had all channels on sports or not, it didn't look like it, but the man comes home with a big bucket of KFC and spends days at a time in front of that box!

Sometimes it makes me sad that there aren't any natural predators of humans around that can thin out the herd a little by sneaking up on the morons that will watch anything on the tube.

On the other hand I have been known to watch Gilligan's Island marathons on TBS...

Prostate of the Union

Tonight Dubya will be flapping his gums again. I'm glad I'll be working. I can catch the best bits on The Daily Show when it's all over.

I have no doubt that Bush will call his mess in Iraq a success because the elections occurred. I'll agree that the election was a good thing, but let's not let the Presidud off too easily. Up to now almost every move has been handled with incompetence.

Regarding Bush's plans for Social Security, check out Jon's "There Is No Crisis" at exhibit5a . I left a comment that will stand as the remainder of my thoughts for the day. You can leave a comment too. And let's hope "db" doesn't get to right wing reactionary on us over there... Oops, too late!
